Goldfish Love

Oh, yes, love is in the air.....water.

While we were gone back in June, the pump in the pond got clogged and two of the three goldfish were eaten by a bird. The one little calico goldfish was traumatized. He stayed hidden all the time. He would scoot out to get fish food but if he saw a movement or shadow, dash and he was under the ledge again. We felt so sorry for Calico so yesterday at the tianguis we bought two more goldfish friends for him.

The minute that we opened the bag and let the new fish in the water Calico was out of hiding. After swimming along side of each fish for a minute or two, Calico decided that one of the fish was much more interesting. He swam along her back side bumping her. I'm calling that fish a her because I thought that behavior looks a little strange. In all the fish we have had in the pond, we have not had the bumping routine.

I went to the computer and googled "fish sex." And sure enough, that is probably what I was witnessing. It was kind of exciting! I even read about how you sex a fish....you know figure out if it is a male or female. Okay you can see the difference in the picture close-ups but my fish didn't seem to be interested in allowing me to get up close and personal with them.

We might have some babies although from what I read the chance of them living are slim. Nevertheless, Calico is a happy fish.

Now you just need to get him a beer and an underwater TV, and he will be the happiest fish alive!

Billie, Billie, Billie. You can imagine how that post set me off and the constraint I have had to exert to simply limit my comments. You probably have started all the cougars in the Jardin "bumping" away or a run on fish in the Tianguis.

richland, your restraint is appreciated on this site but feel free to let your imagination expand on the theme on The Gangs.
