A Little Night Music

One of the many things I love about San Miguel is the opportunity to be entertained while you have dinner. This happens at so many restaurants but you have to be on the lookout for who is playing where. Things change, from Wednesdays to Fridays, from The Restaurant to Hecho en Mexico. Who is in town and who isn't. It could be a solo, a quartet, a band. The musicians could be gringos, Cubans, Mexicans or.....who knows what country. They could live in San Miguel or just be passing through. The music could be Spanish guitar, blues, jazz, rock or country and western. But what amazes me is the quality of music that can be heard. Seldom is there a cover charge although sometimes there is a minimum but a drink or two with dinner easily covers it.

Last night a group of us went to hear Billy Parker at Brasserie. He plays there on Wednesday nights. We sat through two sets and had a great dinner.  It is a patio, relaxed and comfortable. An intimate space. We were close to Billy and I felt like he was singing just for me.

I do love living here.

Billie, anywhere Gil or Cartas are playing (preferably together) or a venue where Doc S or John D. deign to perform is a heavenly evening for me. Doug Robinson and his fusion group provide a fab aural arena.. SMA has SOOOOOO many good musicians on a weekly basis that NC seems extremely dull (and VERY EXPENSIVE!) in comparison. I REALLY miss the opportunities that are presented on a daily basis there.
Cheers!
