It Has Been A Long Time

I have not updated the blog in a long time but that does not mean life has not been a happening. I'm not even sure where to start but since we've "talked," We have been to Mexico City and now we are in Houston. I'll just tell you the short version.

I was starting to worry about Ned before we went to DF. We met our son there and had a great time but he agreed with me that "Dad" needed to come back to his doctors in Houston. Son left DF a couple of days before we did and by the time I walked in the door back in San Miguel, there was no question that something was wrong. It was late in the afternoon and of course I didn't reach the doctor's office on a Friday.

Over the weekend we went ahead and booked a flight back to Houston. I have always felt like I could get out of SMA for medical treatment the next day. Not on todays airline schedules. It was Thursday before we could get seats on an airplane to Houston. Friday Ned had an MRI and it confirmed my fears. He had spots in his brain. This week has been full of doctor visits for tests and more tests. This year we are starting to know the Houston Medical Center much better than we want to. We have seen neurosurgeons, oncology radiologist and oncologist. He has had MRIs, PETscans, xrays, EKGs, and will have a nuclear stress test this Tuesday. He is scheduled for brain surgery on Friday.

The plan is to take out the largest "spot" because it is in an easily accessable place where there is little chance of damage to the brain. The other two spots will get radiation.

No evidence of cancer showed up anywhere else in his body so we have very high expectations that we are going be back in San Miguel in about a month ready to party.

It sounds like you have very good medical treatment and of course the best attitude helps! Please give Ned a hug for me, and have fun partying when you get back to SMA.
