Blessings

I think I want to be blessed. Is that what you call it when the priest sprinkles holy water and reads from the Bible? Well, whatever it is called, I think it would be very comforting to know that a man of God was putting in a good word for me.

On this evening we were hanging out at the plaza in front of the Oratorio church when this car pulled up and parked. In a few minutes the man came out of the side of the church with the priest. It took about five minutes for the ceremony.

You know if I don't know what is going on, I make up my own story. I think this is a mother and son. At first I thought that maybe they had Dad in the back seat and the priest was coming out to give him last rights but I looked and no one was in the back seat. So, my next thought was that the son had bought a new car and Mama insisted that it must be blessed so he would be safe and the car would not be in a wreck.

Blessing things are big here in the Mexican Catholic church but this is the first time I have seen just one thing blessed in public. Usually it is in front of the Parroquia and it is all the taxis in town, or all the horses, or all the buses, or all the pets, or the new police equipment, or.........there are lots of things to be blessed.

I'm just saying that I think asking for God's blessing is a good thing.

God's blessings surround us -- priest or no priest. But I am always pleased to see people putting their faith to work.

Billie, I have been an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church for decades.

I hereby bless you.

Michael, serious or not, I feel better.

Steve, I agree with you. Ned and I often sit and talk about the blessings that surround us. I guess we don't really have to have someone say "I hereby bless you" but it kind of reinforces the feeling.

Babs, I send you my love and blessings. And if you aren't feeling lots better by now, get yourself out of Kingwood and into the Medical Center.

Billie,
When I bought my car (you know which one) I asked the priest to come over and bless it. He even had me lift the hood so he could bless the motor. I have had this car for quite awhile and I have never had even the slightest problem with it so hey, why not? Anyway, it makes me feel better. When you drive in Mexico you need all the spiritual help that you can get!

Bob, indeed you do need all the spiritual help you can get when driving in Mexico.

Frank, you made my day. Thank you my friend.

Having read the comments above, I want to announce that I am now available to bless cars. And burros, tacos, whatever.

But a fee will be involved.
