The spaghetti squash is blooming like crazy.
I need to find a few recipes for chard. It is ready to start being harvested.
But the lettuce......oh, my. Something else is harvesting the lettuce. First were nibbles around the edges but now it is eating it's way through the whole pot. Someone told me it might be snails but I haven't found one yet. This is on the roof terrace so I don't think it is a rabbit. Whatever it is, it prefers lettuce over chard.

Are those the squash blossoms they put in quesadillas ? Yummm! Veggies on the roof - works for me.
Juan, I'm trying to grow spaghetti squash and I haven't seen any of that here so I doubt that this is the variety of blossoms that we usually buy in the mercado for soups, sauces and quesadillas. The roof and containers have to work. It is the only sunny place we have for veggies.
OK, here are your two recipes for Swiss chard.
1. Make a sofrito of tomato, garlic and onion. Throw chopped up chard in and sauté until done. Or you can add chicken broth to the mixture and call it soup. Of course, if you want to make it really special, be sure to add Knorr Suiza.
2. Fry some cumin, dried chile flakes and garlic in olive oil. You can add tomato or not (I have this tendency to add tomato to everything.). Chop up the chard along with about a third as much parsley. Add it to the spice mixture, a little at time, stirring it until it’s limp. Cook everything until it’s well done. Add a can or the equivalent quantity of cooked garbanzo beans and cook a minute or so more. Serve at room temperature, with or without lemon.
Oh, that is a beautiful garden you have there! I imagine those squash blossoms would work just as well as the variety you buy at the mercados.
I'm curious, what kind of potting soil do you use for your pots? Do they sell bags like they do here in the US? Probably a very dumb question, but I'm curious. :) And what about fertilizer?
I get a lot of squash blossoms as well and they work. I stuff them at times and for soup. Your pix are extraordinaire. Something for sure is eating before you have had a chance. Life of the garden pests is your garden.
Jennifer, enough of the Chard survived that I'll try one of your recipes in the next couple of days.
Thanks for the comments from overone else....I think I'll have some green beans to harvest by Sunday.
