Oliver's Burger House opened recently at 67 Zacateros, near Pila Seca and across from La Cava for those of you who live in SMA. We had tried to go once before but they are closed on Mondays. So we headed back this week. It is definitely a Burger House with about 10 burgers listed on the menu that are variations on the cheese and condiments but all of them have hamburger, 100% ground sirloin hamburger. Now that might not seem like such a big deal to the out-of-towners but here where most places make hamburger patties with some kind of filler, it means GOOD.
I had the Swiss burger with guess what? Yes, Swiss cheese....and mayonnaise, mustard, grilled onion, lettuce and a big slice of tomato. That comes with very good fries. I think the fries are made from scratch. They had a nice crispy skin but substance inside.
I know we live in Mexico and I love the foods we have here but sometimes you just want to eat something from home. Not a McDonalds or Wendys or Whataburger, but burgers like you had on Friday nights from the backyard grill with family and friends. There is nothing fancy about this burger except it was authentic.
Oliver's also serves a few other items like this Philly Cheese Steak. Everything looked good. They are open from 12 to 8, Tuesday through Sunday. Stop in next time you want a good burger.

veggie burgers?

How about a portabello mushroom burger? I know that they had that but not sure if you would have another choice.
I was disappointed with my Philly Cheese Steak at Oliver's. It's not made as they do in Philadelphia. As you can see in the picture, (yes, folks, that's what they are calling a Philly Cheese Steak!) Oliver's serves up a solid, thick slab of meat. If you crave a true Philly Cheese Steak of tiny pieces of paper thin steak, chopped up and sauteed with onions, take a pass on this one.
I hate to admit it but I don't think I've ever eaten a Philly Cheese Steak in Philly....or anywhere. Ned agrees with you. He said it wasn't like the authentic Philly Cheese Steaks he has eaten elsewhere.
Those burgers sound wonderful. I am in the states at this time and yesterday bought ground beef at a "healthy" type store. Had a patty last evening, yuck!! In Mexico we go to the Carneceria where the attendant pulls out a hunk of beef and carves off an authentic bit of meat and grinds it on the spot for us. No fillers, I am so spoiled to that wonderful fresh meat flavor and quality.
Hi Billie - I had eaten there before and I agree it's delicious. It just so happened that earlier in the week I had set it up to meet two friends there today for lunch. One is a Brit, so he had the British burger. The other man had the French burger with Bernaise sauce and I had the Mexican burger with the guacamole, among other things. MUY BIEN! I tasted the bernaise sauce and it was delicious. All three of us said it was the best burger we've had anywhere in Mexico! The owner lived in Europe, the US and Mexico and was in the hotel and restaurant business......it shows! Oliver's is a real "keeper".
We are used to having our beef ground for us on the spot in San Carlos. We make our burgers at home, with bolillos for buns--very good! I use my George Foreman-type grill, and also grill onions and bell peppers or poblanos, and use manchugo cheese. Haven't yet found a restaurant burger that good.
This is my father Jesus' place. I will be going there to see him this year! I live in england and can't wait to see his place, he's a good cook.
Nice blog
