The Ankle - Six Weeks Later

No, Dr. Elias isn't cutting my foot off......but the cast came off today. Hip, Hip Hurray!

He recommends that I use the crutches or a cane for another week for "security." The ankle is really stiff. I've never had a broken bone before and I was suprised at how strange my foot and ankle felt without the cast. I almost felt dizzy or off balance when I first stood up in shoes. That is passing and now I just have to get the ankle working again so I can take off on the cobblestones. I'll be taking a few sessions of physical therapy but I expect to be able to travel next month.

I'm glad that this is almost over.......so is Nurse Ned.

Billie, you reminded me of when I broke my ankle many years ago. It was great to get the cast off. I was surprised that my foot tingled and it hurt when I put weight on it. It was stiff and felt like it was made of wood. But those feelings passed in a day or two and it was great to be free to walk again. Good luck and be careful.

Ohhh yea! Showers and baths without a plastic bag or hanging your foot over the tub. I bet you had that wrinkly, white weird skin thing. My favorite was being able to scratch everywhere, I think I took a hairbrush and just ran it all over my foot.

Happy Free Foot!!

Thanks for celebrating with me. Today I can go upstairs in the regular way but can't go downstairs except by putting one foot on the lower stair and then the other foot on that stair. My goal today is to work on getting one foot on a stair and the other foot on the stair below that one.

We got to your site by a round about way. We are frequent visitors to Steve Williams blog, scooter in the sticks. He was giving a nod of appreciation to Frank Armstrong who has the blog pitchertaker. And we found your link there. Just want to say that we enjoy your blog and we have always like Doc Sevrinson. We sometimes think we might want to live in Mexico and have been reading about the different places. So finding your blog is of great interest to us as we like to have first hand accounts of life there. We will stop by regulary. Wishing you a speedy recovery with the ankle. Sounds like you are over the worst part and now almost home free.

Heinz & frenchie, I'm glad you found my blog whatever the round about way was. But I have to tell you that you got here via two of my favorite people, Steve and Frank. We are very content living in Mexico full time. Have you traveled in Mexico much? There are some wonderful places to live.

Please keep stopping in on the blog. Love to have ya.

Wayne, I'm glad to be back on my own two feet too. I'm getting around okay in the house but haven't tackled too many cobblestones. They told me to take it easy for another couple of weeks as I could re-break the ankle. YIKES!
