It Turned Out Okay

When we sold our house in Texas, we had an Estate Sale and sold almost everything. People have asked if I miss my "stuff." Actually I have missed some things and the things that I missed were some things from my kitchen. I didn't bring them down because I already had the tiny kitchen in San Miguel packed full of stuff and I would not have had a place to put those things. But since then we have remodeled the kitchen and I now have more efficient storage so I could have brought down a few things. The one most missed was my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer. It was the "big one" and it was white. But while we were in Texas I bought a new one...................... This time I didn't go for the biggest stand mixer. I bought the one that has the lift head. The bowl is a bit smaller and there is less power but then I'm no longer cooking for so many people and I really don't want to make 3 batches of chocolate chip cookies at a time.

I did some research over on the forum in Fine Cooking and several people who had the smaller model for a number of years were pleased with it. Besides it costs less money. I've used it a couple of times and so far I'm pleased although I'm not sure about the plastic guard/pouring spout thing. I kind of doubt that I'm going to use it. I like to really see how things look as they mix and it is just another thing to wash and store. The mixer fits very nicely on the counter under my microwave shelf so it is fairly easy to pull out to use.

Isn't it beautiful? Doesn't it look wonderful with the cabinets and the granite? Just imagine how tacky the white one would have been along side the other stainless and black appliances. If I had brought down the old one, I would have felt compelled to keep it. So selling off the old one turned out okay.

This is the same model mixer in cobalt blue I've had for years -- at least 20. Got it when we lived in NJ. I have never mixed anything in it that I've noticed a lack of power. And I actually like the handle on the mixing bowel, and I like the tilting head. Don't think you'll have any misgivings over your choice. The black color is great -- just right for your space. Congrats!

I, too miss some of the things from the kitchen that had to be left behind. One of those things was also a large mixer. Sure don't appreciate the little hand mixer that I got here to replace it; but maybe someday when I get more shelves in the kitchen for storage I will again get a stand one. Have fun with it.

I see from the reflection in the mixing bowl that you were dressed when you took the photo. Thank heavens!

A hilarious photo of--I think it was a teakettle--appeared on eBay a couple of years ago. The seller had photographed it stark naked and didn't see his reflection until it was too late. :)

Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks a mixer is a beautiful thing! hahaha
John.....What a funny story. I knew my reflection was there and gave a 1/2 second photoshop thought to taking it out but decided to leave it in. Kind of puts my mark on the mixer, don't you think?

We have two! If I can't spoil my wife then who? Especially when my stomach is the recipient of so many fine Kitchenaid productions.

We had the head lift model that has been great for quite a few years - but I talked her into the lever lift model because like Tim the Tool Man I am a POWER freak ;-) The first lever action model we bought broke practically out of the box - having had so much luck with the head lift model - we almost went back (it actually was the lift lever that broke) but in the end I fluffed it off as just a freak accident. We bought a red one - one at the Rancho and one at the Casita - they aren't easy to haul around you know ;-)

6 years ago, I stored or got rid of most of my kitchen equipment to go on the road and live in an RV. It's one of the things I most look forward to with this new house, having a Kitchenaid and a full sized blender... and the counter space to store and use them ;)

I think that picture is almost porn!
