Hurricane Dean - Last Report

We are still reading reports of Hurricane Dean dumping huge amounts of rain in central Mexico but it was less than 1/2 inch in San Miguel de Allende. We had a breeze, not winds. We really don't know the track of the tropical depression after it crossed the mountains West of Veracruz. So either it went North of us or it had dissipated by the time it reached us in central Mexico. We are still under a cloud cover and we hear we could get some rain today but this is the rainy season.

Hurricane Dean was a reminder......I'm relieved that we no longer own a house 50 miles inland from the Texas Gulf Coast. Every tropical depression in the Atlantic was a worry. We always had the questions: How strong will it get? Where will it make landfall? Do we leave Mexico to go batten down the hatches in Houston?

This was a powerful storm but in many ways Mexico was spared the total brunt of its power. Now we'll see what the rest of the hurricane season brings.
