Crowing at the Break of Dawn

Cock-a-doodle-doo. I love waking up in the morning in the half-light still quiet of the night to the sound of the roosters around us. I know this must be a little weird because so many people complain about the roosters waking them up in the morning. The cock-a-doodle-doo is a much better way to wake up than the buzz of an alarm or a radio telling you who was bombed last night. For me, there is something about that cock-a-doodle-doo that says you are in San Miguel, you are living your dream, you are connected to a simple life.

I always thought that the rooster was crowing to welcome the day but I quickly found out in San Miguel that the rooster can crow all day long and sometimes even on a bright moonlit night. I did a little research and found out that the rooster is crowing because he wants the other roosters to know that this is his territory and these are his hens. Stay out!

Whatever the reasons for his crowing, at the break of dawn he reassures me that I'm in the right place.

Ditto on the alram clock. Double ditto on hearing about world happenings only when I choose to hear them. No rosster here, but it is the moo of a cow I hear each morning as Suegro leads him from his barn to the fields early each morn.
