Scaffolding, Mexican style. They are building the brick wall, standing on this scaffold. The end of the board extending to the left is resting on the top of a wall. The board that goes under the plank that extends to the left is resting in a hole they have punched into the wall. The upright brace is wired to the horizontal plank. It is the way we have seen them build scaffolds before and it works. I'm not even going to think about OSHA regulations from the USA (Occupational Safety and Health Act).
Watching how they go about this construction is a lesson in ingenuity. The workers have figured out how to get the job done with relatively little equipment other than a hammer, shovel, small sledgehammer and a chisel.
By the end of Day 3, the wall on the east side of the house was up and the wall of the new bathroom was about 3 feet high.
