Better Late Than Never

Because of Laurie's request, lots of the Mexican bloggers have been posting Nativity scenes. I'm late with mine although offically the three wise men should have just been added to the scene today. This is the nativity scene in the Jardin in San Miguel de Allende. It has been so difficult to photograph. It is set up in the back of a gazebo and either the east or west sun is hitting the front of it so that everytime I photographed it if I had the manger where you could see it in the dark, a circle of washed out area where the sun hit the opening surrounded it. Last night after chasing the Three Wise Men, I stopped and tried one more time. Now they have this hideous orange colored light directly over the manger. I never could balance the light to make it all look "right." But folks this is the best I can do this year.

I like it just fine. Looks like it is set in a grotto and has kind of an other wordly aspect to it.

Wayne, you always make the nicest comments. Thank you.

I can almost see the figures moving. Really nice and keep in mind that I am not throwing flowers at you for the heck of it.

Billie -- You underestimate the power of this photograph. Your representation of the nativity has a certain authenticity that is lacking in most other similar portrayals. After all, the light thrown off by that star was probably not the best lighting choice for photography.

It's beautiful, like a beautiful painting. There is always beauty in your photos. Have a great day tomorrow.

I've tried to photograph this myself, with dismal results. I agree that yours is beautiful. The murky light does give it an ethereal quality, almost a sense of held breath. It's a precious image.

It's a great photo. I've attempted to snap plenty of nativity scenes, albeit a little half-heartedly. And only one or two shots were vaguely satisfying. They don't seem to lend themselves too kindly to photography, especially outdoors nativities.
