The White Dresses

I love the girls in these white communion dresses. The courtyard of the church is filled with families. Many of these families were dressed simply but they were so proud of their boys and girls.

Every family that had a digital camera was taking pictures and there were professional photographers working the crowd as well. It is a special time.

The last picture has a special 'glow' to it. I like the way the light focuses on the girl, and the natural shadows obscure the background. Great pictures!

I can imagine you'll see lots of scenes such as this as you travel throughout Mexico.

Yaya,
Thanks. To make these pictures, I have to be "there" in the "now" so to speak. I can't just walk up and BAM in their face. They have seen me just walking or sitting around. I almost always ask permission. That is why I get these poses. In a way, maybe a candid would be better but in another way, I like to look at them the way they want to be presented.

The white dresses remind me of me when I was eleven and made my first communion. I remember all the bible study classes we had and having to kneel all the time. I fainted in church and later that evening I went to the hospital to have my appendix removed. Would you believe that the doctor came to the house? His name was Dr. Denmark and he actually examined me at home and told my mom I needed to be in the hospital immediately. Those were the days. In any event back to the subject of those dresses, they are beautiful as are the children. Great pix.and I agree with yaya about the lighting. Take care.

I'm going to a communion in Cancun on Nov 30. I can't wait! It will be the first one I have been invited to here.

Wayne, It is very interesting to watch the family interaction. The girls are adorable. Here most of them wore hoops under their dresses but Mama brought the hoop in a sack and they slipped them on just before the Mass. The boys are adorable as well. They manage to stay dressed until after Mass but most of them were taking off coats as they came out of Church and within minutes they have their shirttails out and are sliding down the bannister of the steps.
