Progress

To bring you up-to-date on the ankle story, I'm making progress.

This morning we had a new x-ray made and saw the doctor. The ankle is healing very nicely BUT the doctor still does not want me to put any weight on it for another two weeks AND he wants me to stay in the cast for another week after that....total of three more weeks wearing the cast....Que Lastima! I was hoping, really hoping, that I would be able to put some weight on the foot after today but it is not to be. So I'm going to be a good patient and wait another two weeks. The other good news is that he thinks that when the cast comes off, I'll be able to walk and do physical therapy and hopefully I won't have to wear the ugly orthopedic sandal that you see above.

Physically I feel so much better than I did for the first 7-10 days. The different muscles that are used for dragging myself up the stairs and for getting around on the crutches have made an adjustment so they aren't complaining so much anymore. So while it is still limiting in that you can't carry much in your hand (a glass of water is impossible) while using crutches, I've found a lot of ways to compensate for what I need to do.

The bad thing is that it still leaves Ned as the cook and bottle washer. Poor man. I think he really does love me to put up with me through all of this.

Sorry to hear you've got another 2 weeks Billie. Still, it's wonderful that you are healing well and it sounds like your doctor is very cautious. Ankles are weird joints, I don't think they easily recover. I know I had a bad sprain on mine, was off it for weeks and then took one wrong step and it swelled up again. I still have to be very careful or it goes south on me.

I'll bet Ned has discovered a whole new appreciation of all that you do ;)

Good news, bad news about the ankle. As for Ned, it'll do him good to have this role reversal a little longer. Makes him appreciate all the stuff you do even more!

Amiga - I think it is a rare opportunity when we get a chance to reciprocate with the kind of care we have received from our wives for so many years - I bet it all makes Ned feel good to be able to return the favor - for a short time any way ;-)

I am glad to hear that you're doing better and that you can find a way to make some pictures--although the injury is present even there.

I hope that you are feeling better soon, Billie. Be careful (yes, those words again!) when you get the cast off. I was in a cast for 6 weeks and I think that your foot/leg will be weakened for awhile making you prone to another accident. Don't try to do everything right away.

La gringa, I've been worried about that very thing. I'm planning to sign up for physical therapy to try to get some strength back as quickly as possible.
