For Whom the Bell Tolls
The Pope died this afternoon. In San Miguel de Allende, it was very strange, at about the same time the electricity went off, Church bells started ringing all over the city. Not the usual announcement of time for Mass or the excited clamor of bells announcing processions. But continous slow clanging from every church. Since the electricity was off we couldn't turn on the television but we knew. The Pope was dead. We will go into the Centro a little later to see what is happening in this very Catholic town.
